Frequently Asked Questions about IntelliPost
1)
What is IntelliPost?
IntelliPost is a
user-configurable processing system that generates Machine Control Data (MCD)
for computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools from cutter location
files (CLFILE) generated from various types of NC part programming systems.
Each IntelliPost module consist of a General Purpose Postprocessor and a
Postprocessor Configuration Utility to develop specific postprocessors.
2) What is the difference
between IntelliPost 6.0 and IntelliPost 2003?
IntelliPost 2003 was designed to make the post configuration even simpler
using a Windows GUI, but still retains the power of IntelliPost
6.0. Intellipost 6.0 remain with the familiar look of a 'Command Line' application.
3) What PC Operating System does
IntelliPost supports?
The minimum requirement
to run IntelliPost 6.0.4 would be a PIII or higher with 512-MB RAM, and
Win2000/XP . IntelliPost 2003 also requires Win2000/XP. It
also requires the installation of DAO version 3.51 or later.
4) On what UNIX platforms does
Intellipost 5.4 run?
Intellipost over the
years been designed to run on most hardware platforms including but not
limited to: HP9000/300, HP9000/700, IBM RS6000, Intergraph, NEC
(RISC), SGI, SUN Motorola, SUN SPARC, DEC ULTRIX, SUN SOLARIS, DEC ALPHA/OSF
and PC.
5) What type of CLFILE format does
IntelliPost accept?
The General Purpose
Postprocessor will read an ASCII text CLFILE which closely resembles APT
source statements. We support most CAD/CAM system outputted CLFILE (PTC
Pro/Mfg, Computervision,SURFCAM, etc.). For more details, call Software
Magic.
6) What machine types are supported
by IntelliPost?
Mills, Lathes, 4-Axis EDM, and Flat pattern
machines (Punch Press,Flame Cutters, etc.).
| MILLS: |
|
3-Axis machining center with positioning rotary table |
|
4-Axis machining center with contouring rotary table |
|
5-Axis machining center with gantry type rotary head |
|
5-Axis machining center with rotary and tilting tables |
|
5-Axis gantry type machining center with one non-orthogonal axis |
|
5-Axis machining center with 2 rotary table mounted atop each other
|
| LATHES: |
|
2-Axis lathe side turret |
|
2-Axis lathe side and end turret |
|
4-Axis lathe without simultaneous merged operations |
|
4-Axis lathe with simultaneous merged operations |
|
2-Axis lathe with milling capability |
|
4-Axix lathe with milling capability |
7) Is Postprocessor Configuration
Utility difficult to use?
The IntelliPost
Configuration Utility has been engineer to enable users to quickly and
intelligently describe machine tool and controller conditions. The software
assumes IEEE RS-274D MCD output format as default conditions. Functional
areas or categories are displayed on the screen for ease of creating
postprocessors.
8) What about User Documentation and
help support?
Each IntelliPost system
is delivered with User Documentation which contain information on Getting
Started (loading software), Using the Configuration Tool (detailed
information on screen menus), and Postprocessor Command Reference Section
(contains detail description of each supported post processor command). A
direct line for phone support is available
9) Is a library of postprocessors
available with the IntelliPost product?
A sample set of Post
Processors in included with the Installation.
The former 'library' has been discontinued.
User expectations were that these were 'completed posts' and 'ready to use
out of the box'. This was not the case. They were intended to be used as template files for postprocessor development.
If you understand the limitations, call SMI. A template file may be
available for your application.
10) Are training classes available?
Recently we have found
that individualized personal Training is far superior to an open Course. For
about the same cost, and in less time, you learn more.
However, courses can be scheduled for a
particular company. Call Software Magic for schedule and cost.
11) Is training included with
Intellipost?
Typically training is a
separate item and is quoted by Software Magic. Either call Software Magic or
check the web site for further details.
12) Can custom postprocessors be
purchased?
Custom postprocessors
can be developed for your machine tool and controller. For quotes on custom
postprocessors, call Software Magic.
13) What type of support is available
for Intellipost?
Software Magic offers a
Technical Support Agreement (TSA) for Intellipost that covers product
updates, how-to questions, replacement copies/documentation and bug-fixes.
14) Why should I purchase Intellipost
instead of any other postprocessor?
Intellipost is simply
the finest product of its type and provides our customers with what is hands
down the best value on the market. From a price/performance standpoint,
nothing competes with Intellipost. It is easy to learn yet a very powerful
tool.
15) How much does Intellipost cost?
Unlike our competition,
Intellipost is reasonably priced and is a complete system capable of
handling Mills, Lathes, etc up to five axis. Call Software Magic for further
details: (407) 814 9474 X10
